SmartLipo™ is an amazing new technology for removing unwanted body fat with a laser. The technique involves the use of a laser to rapidly dissolve the fat and tighten the surrounding skin. The treatment is done in our office by our plastic surgeon and does not require the use of a general anesthetic. Smart Lipo can melt the fat away, reshape and contour almost all areas of the body including the abdomen, love handles, backs, thighs, hips, knees, arms, neck, and chin. SmartLipo is highly effective, and the best responses are seen on patients wishing to lose small amounts of fat, or up to about 8 pounds. SmartLipo will not provide satisfactory results for persons needing to lose significant amounts of body fat - such patients require traditional liposuction or alternate methods for weight loss.
Why should I choose SmartLipo over traditional liposuction?
Many features set SmartLipo apart from traditional liposuction such as length of visits, comfort, recovery time, and reduced scarring and bruising. Traditional liposuction requires about seven days of down time post-procedure, general anesthesia, additional surgical procedures to touch up what the liposuction cannot achieve, stitches, six week compression garment, and an unpleasant tube that vacuums out fat. SmartLipo, on the other hand, uses local anesthesia, small lasers and cannulas for fat removal, leaves little to no scarring and requires no stitches, only two days of down time and only two weeks for compression garments.

The ViVA Experience
The procedure is done in our Burlington office by our plastic surgeon, Dr. Elliot Lach. Prior to the procedure, the fatty areas are marked and a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. The laser is a pen held device which is fired close to the skin. As soon as the laser is fired, the fat cells break up. The fluid release from the fat cells is drained away by the body's natural system (lymphatic), The laser also causes small blood vessels to coagulate (gel) immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding and swelling. The laser also affects the collagen in the skin which later causes the skin to tighten and shrink. Each session take about 60-120 mins.
